Patterns

Inverted Hammer

Small body near the bottom of the candle's range with a long upper wick at least twice the body's height. Identical shape to a shooting star but appearing at the bottom of a downtrend instead of the top of an uptrend.

Pattern shape

What it means

Buyers attempted a rally during the session that sellers pushed back, but the very fact that buyers showed up after an extended downtrend signals weakening supply.

Confirmation to wait for

Strongest when the next session opens higher and closes above the inverted hammer's body. Without that follow-through it's just an upper-wick bar.

Failure mode

Often fails without confirmation: the upper wick can also mean sellers are still in control. Context (real downtrend, support level) matters.

Detection rule

Same shape as Shooting Star (body in bottom half, long upper wick) BUT with a prior 5-day downtrend.

The scanner below applies this rule to today's daily candles across actively-traded NSE equities, ranked by traded value (price × volume). Liquidity floor: 25 Cr traded today. Rule-based matches - not buy/sell calls.
