Why most of these are closed
Indian mutual funds can hold $7 billion in overseas securities between them, and each fund house has its own $1 billion ceiling within that. Both are set by the RBI. The industry reached the overall cap, so most houses stopped accepting fresh subscriptions. A house still carrying room under its own limit can reopen while the rest stay shut, which is why the list of what is open changes one fund house at a time. About ₹60,099 cr sits in these funds today.
Open means you can place a new order today. Existing SIPs keep running either way, so a fund shown as closed may still be collecting instalments from people who started earlier. Exchange-traded funds are bought on the exchange rather than from the fund house, so they are marked separately.
