What it means
Neither buyers nor sellers could control the close. The session opened, swung in both directions, and ended near the start; sentiment is balanced.
Confirmation to wait for
On its own a spinning top means little. Treat as a 'pause' signal after a trend, and wait for the next 1-2 candles to break the indecision.
Failure mode
Spinning tops are common inside any trend; most don't lead to reversals. Only matters at extremes (after a long run + at a level).
body ≤ 30% × range AND upper wick > 20% × range AND lower wick > 20% × range. Small body with meaningful wicks on both sides.
